Raise your hand if you’re like me. Your principal walks into a faculty meeting and tells the staff that communication logs are now mandatory. Your first thought is, “Ugh–one more thing to keep track of!” I totally get it–I do! We have to keep track of so many things as teachers, and one more thing can feel overwhelming to do one more thing! But once you have a parent call log template for teachers, it makes everything so easy to keep track of!
I say this from experience because my principal encouraged us to keep a parent communication log during my first year of teaching. I tried so many different logs and systems, but I just couldn’t keep up with them.
During my second year of teaching, I bent over backward to meet the needs of one of my struggling students. I was in constant contact with the mom and implemented accommodations to help ensure his success. Imagine my surprise when we were in his initial IEP meeting at the end of the year, and she told my principal and other staff that I hadn’t done anything to help her son! It was at that moment, right there, that I wished I had been keeping a parent communication log! Thankfully, my principal supported me, but after having that awful experience, I decided to create my own parent call log template for teachers.
Parent Call Log Template for Teachers
Like most busy teachers, I needed something EASY to use and EASY to implement! So, I created my parent call log template for teachers, and when I started sharing it with other teachers, I realized I wasn’t the only one who needed a good system for documenting parent communication!
Keeping parent communication truly has so many benefits! Here are 3 reasons why you need a Parent Call Log Template for Teachers:
Reason 1: Organization
A parent communication log will help keep you organized so that you can see how consistent you’ve been with communication. It will truly help you work smarter, not harder! And having a good system in place makes it so easy to keep up with!
After using this parent communication log, James was amazed at how much it helped—” I can’t love it anymore! It has already helped so much! I struggle every year with organization, and this is such a big help to me. Everything is in one place and user-friendly. I will definitely use this every year.”
Reason 2: Simplify Communication
A parent communication log will simplify your communication with families and help you be more intentional with building positive relationships! Having a log for each student makes it so easy to see the types of communication you’ve had with families. Have you only been contacting families for negative behaviors? With so many things on your plate, it’s easy to fall into the pattern of only contacting parents when issues arise. I’ve been there! So, if you have to, please put some grace on! But this is one of the things I LOVED about using a parent communication log! Using a log consistently will help you see when to be more intentional with positive contact!
Tammy has loved how this log has made her life easier and helped her use it for all types of parent communication!! She says: “It is a game changer and is helping make my teacher life easier. I love the simplicity. I created a notebook for the logs, and I keep it within reach so that I can easily make a call, send an email, etc, and record the situation. I love using it for all communications, positive, negative, or whatever the case may be. I love it!
Reason 3: Data Resource
A parent communication log will give you great data at your fingertips and all in one place! It’s easy to access this data for meetings, to show administration, or if a parent ever questions something. After that awful meeting in my second year of teaching, I always took my parent communication log with me to meetings and was so thankful I had kept good data of all the ways I had contacted families to help their child be successful in my classroom!
Not only will you love it, but your admin will love it, too! Amber’s admin did! Here’s what she said about it: “I love this communication log. My admin also loved the way it was laid out and ways to check my communication with parents.”
