We have to keep track of so many things as teachers, and one more thing can feel overwhelming to do one more thing! I say this from experience because my principal encouraged us to keep a parent communication log during my first year of teaching. I tried so many different logs and systems, but I just couldn’t keep up with them.

During my second year of teaching, I bent over backward to meet the needs of one of my struggling students. I was in constant contact with the mom and implemented accommodations to help ensure his success. Imagine my surprise when we were in his initial IEP meeting at the end of the year, and she told my principal and other staff that I hadn’t done anything to help her son! It was at that moment, right there, that I wished I had been keeping a parent communication log!
