I love incorporating crafts into all subjects, especially in math! December is the perfect month to add some extra holiday fun into your lessons! This Reindeer Shapes Math Craft is a fun way for students to put their geometry knowledge to practice!
Before doing the craft with your students, I highly recommend reading a reindeer read aloud! It’s so important to tie great children’s literature into all subjects. There are lots of great reindeer books, but two of my favorites are The Little Reindeer* and Olive, the Other Reindeer*. Both are absolutely adorable stories!
The craft comes with 8 different shape options for the head so that you can either differentiate by choosing what students get each shape or you can allow students to choose their own shape. There are also two different options for students to make the reindeer portion of the activity: templates and blackline masters. 
The templates allow students to create the craft from different colored paper! I personally love doing these! If you want, you can also have some of the shapes precut by sending the pieces home with a take-home parent volunteer by using my Helping Hands system. This saves so much time and parents who aren’t able to come into the classroom to volunteer love being able to help out at home! I usually like to save a least one thing for students to cut out, like the head’s shape.
The blackline masters are perfect if you’re short on time and just want students to color in the reindeer.
Either way, it’s great practice for students to identify the shapes of the reindeer and record each shape’s properties (sides and vertices/corners) onto the recording sheet! Plus, these crafts also make an adorable bulletin board or hallway display during the holidays!
