Winter is the perfect time to incorporate some snowman fun into your writing lessons! With 8 different writing pages, this Snowman Writing Craft can be used in a number of ways and with a variety of different snowman read alouds!
Before doing the snowman writing craft with your students, I highly recommend reading a snowman read aloud! Reading and writing go hand in hand, so using a snowman read aloud is great way to tie children’s literature into your lesson. There are lots of great snowman books to choose from, such as: Sneezy the Snowman*, The Greatest Snowman in the World*, Snowman Magic*, The Biggest, Best Snowman*, Heart of a Snowman*, Snowman All Year*, Snowmen at Night*, Snowmen at Work*, and How to Catch a Snowman (this is a new book available exclusively at Barnes & Nobles.)
The resource comes with instructions on how to prep and make the craft, templates for the craft, a blackline master, and 8 writing pages (and each page comes in 3 line options.)
The templates allow students to create the craft from different colored paper! I personally love doing these! If you want, you can also have some of the pieces precut by sending them home with a take-home parent volunteer to cut out by using my Helping Hands system. This saves so much time and parents who aren’t able to come into the classroom to volunteer love being able to help out at home! I usually like to save a least one thing for students to cut out, like the snowman’s body.
The blackline master is perfect if you’re short on time and just want students to color in the snowman.
Either way, it’s a fun way to incorporate snowmen into your writing plans! Plus, this Snowman Writing Craft also makes an adorable bulletin board or hallway display during the winter months!
